Maria Mitchell, a young librarian from Nantucket in the mid-nineteenth century, defied the odds and became an internationally famous astronomer, college professor, and leader in the women's rights movement. Margaret Moore Booker wrote this first modern biography. I aimed for a design that was evocative of the time and place and echoed the title.
